Join with PODER, Jobs with Justice San Francisco, Bayview Advocates, the Public Bank Coalition, United Educators of San Francisco, American Federation of Teachers 2121, SEIU United Services Workers West, SEIU 1021, SOMCAM, SF Rising, IFPTE Local 21, Reclaim Our Power: Utility Justice Campaign, Youth vs. Apocalypse, unions, environmental organizations and allies to craft a bold plan together.
From wildfire smoke that choked the lungs of San Francisco’s residents for days, to record-breaking 100+ degree heat waves, the effects of climate change are here and significantly impacting life in San Francisco. While San Francisco has adopted a series of ambitious climate goals, including all renewable energy by 2030 and net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, we must ensure that these plans serve the needs of our communities.
As global climate chaos meets our local crisis of wealth disparity, an ambitious people’s agenda for climate justice and just transition catalyzing a San Francisco Green New Deal could address climate change alongside many of our city’s needs, from transit justice to green union jobs. With the city slated to release an updated Climate Action Plan in the coming year, the Green New Deal concept capturing the nation’s attention, and massive unemployment and rent debt crises impacting our communities, now is an ideal time to push an immigrant, communities of color and worker-led climate justice, just recovery and just transition agenda in San Francisco.
The goals of this gathering are to bring together workers and community members to learn about climate justice and give feedback so that we can co-create a vision for a Green New Deal in San Francisco. Please bring any and all of your members who want to learn more about climate justice and share ideas about what a just, green, economy can look like!
RSVP if you and your organization can attend. Interpretation is available.
